DEEP READING - UNDROWNED
18.06.2025, 4:00–6:00 PM
AUER-WELSBACH-PARK
(meeting point: tba)
An open reading circle with a shared meal in the park, centering listening - as a practice-based, collective and sensual form of resistance.
In collectively reading and engaging with Toni Morrison's text Racism and Fascism and excerpts from Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs we enter a space of exchange on anti-fascist strategies rooted in mutual care and interdependence, prioritizing the preservation and affirmation of life against dehumanizing forces. Whilst Toni Morrions address from 1995 is an urgent reminder of the shapeshifting power-mechanics of fascisms, Alexis Pauline Gumbs draws from the lives of marine mammals, understanding them as role-models for survival, resistance and care in oppressive structures. Her focus on collective resilience, communal un/learning and embodied memory opens up perspectives for resistant politics and practices - be it in communal, artistic, or curatorial contexts. As part of the gathering, we invite you to enter a shared resonance space when listening, reading and rehearsing together.
The event will take place in English. After the event we invite you to stay and enjoy food and conversations together.
